A filing-method guide for Form 5500-EZ electronic signature, EFAST2 credentials, and signer responsibility.

Summary

For electronic Form 5500-EZ filing, the signer needs the official EFAST2 filing path and valid credentials such as a User ID and PIN. Solo 5500 Desk prepares a self-review packet but does not obtain credentials, sign, transmit, store PINs, or act as an EFAST2 filing service.

Packet preparation and EFAST2 signing are separate jobs.

Why the distinction matters

A Form 5500-EZ packet can be ready while the official filing credentials are not. Treat credentials, signature, and transmission as filing-channel tasks, not content-preparation tasks.

Example

A sponsor determines Form 5500-EZ is required, prepares the packet, and then discovers the return must be filed electronically because of the 10-return threshold. The next task is official EFAST2 access, not a new tax calculation.

When to stop

Stop for failed signatures, transmission errors, hardship waiver questions, amended electronic returns, shared credentials, or any request for someone else to sign the return.

Common questions

Can Solo 5500 Desk sign Form 5500-EZ for me?

No. The product prepares answers and a filing checklist. The user reviews, signs, and files through the official IRS/DOL path.

What if my EFAST2 credentials fail?

Use official EFAST2 or IRS/DOL instructions. Credential problems, signature failures, and transmission errors are outside a packet-preparation product.

Check threshold and deadline

Use the calculator to separate filing trigger, deadline, and filing method before signing.
